Simon Johnson – Labour’s Candidate For Knowle
I have lived in Knowle and Dorridge for most of my life. I worked as a chef, including in a number of local hotels and restaurants. I have run my own businesses and am now retired. I am well-known locally and I am proud to have supported many local community organisations over many years. I would be a powerful voice for Knowle in the Solihull Council chamber. I am appalled at the way the Tories have handled the Covid-19 crisis and made that situation worse by decimating and privatising our essential public services over the last 10 years. Similarly I am angered by the way they have managed the economy, making it increasingly based on low pay and zero-hours contracts. The rich are getting richer whilst the vast majority of us are getting poorer or at best standing still.
However, I am optimistic. I believe that Labour does provide a coherent alternative. This includes:
- Rebuilding OUR National Health & Care services and other public services;
- A programme to meet the housing needs of our young people.
I also want to ensure Solihull Council becomes a ‘real’ Living Wage employer and encourages Solihull employers to do the same.
