About Us

Although Solihull is one of the richest boroughs in the country, it also has some of the greatest levels of inequality. Too many people scrape by on poverty wages; too many of our young people have to leave Solihull to find affordable housing. Public services have been in decline. Many of our elderly are isolated and lonely. Solihull deserves better.

The way that communities are rallying to support each other during the Covid-19 crisis shows that many people agree that there is a need for #FairDealSolihull and that we must rebuild in a way that puts people and communities before profit. If you agree, please get involved in our campaigns and activities.

We have become aware of the proposals for the Morrison’s supermarket site on Stratford Road.

It comprises:

• 85 one and two-bedroom apartments for ‘first time buyers’;

• 30 purpose-built apartments for older people who are seeking to downsize;

• a care home with up to 90 beds, with one floor devoted to specialist dementia care.

The proposal promises ‘an appropriate number of car parking spaces’ in an underground car park.

A range of services will be provided within the building including a gym, a spa and salon, cinema room, restaurant and a variety of indoor and outdoor activity spaces.

The building looks to be eight storeys high and dwarfs the HSBC Bank building next to it.

WE HAVE QUESTIONS…

• Just how affordable for first time buyers will the 85 apartments be?

• Do we REALLY need yet more apartments for older people?

• What will the criteria be for admission to the care home, and who will run it?

• Apart from the cinema room, all the other ‘services’ mentioned are already available on the Stratford Road – shouldn’t we be supporting them?
