Local Labour
Our branch covers the two wards in the south and east of Solihull constituency but in the centre of some of the older parts of the borough. It contains the main shopping areas including the Touchwood development. Our membership lives in the two wards with the B91 postcode. Like all branches, ours is part of the combined Solihull and Meriden Constituency Labour Party.
The branch currently holds members meetings four times a year, with an Annual General Meeting usually in March. Meetings are held in the Oliver Bird Hall at 7:30 pm, normally on a Monday, to discuss routine branch business, campaigning and, when available, to hear presentations by guest speakers. We participate in social events organised by the constituency, as well as our own branch events.
All six council seats in these two wards are currently held by the Tories in what is traditionally a very Conservative area, but the branch always fields a candidate in local elections in both wards, and party members have actively engaged in canvassing and leafletting to maintain as strong a Labour presence as possible. Our candidates for the 2021 Solihull MBC local elections are shown above.
We currently have around 180 members. The Branch Committee members are: Chair – Ian English: Vice Chair – Dorothy Podmore; Treasurer – Janet Marsh; Secretary – Mike Tincombe.
New members are always extremely welcome and joining is very easy through the “JOIN” link at the top of this page.

The Co-op Party […]
Keeping services at Solihull Hospital long-term
It is really good news that Solihull Hospital is now a facility that is clear of Covid-19, enabling as many local patients, as is safe and practical, to undergo surgery and other procedures that were ‘paused’ during the initial response to the pandemic. This has meant that the Walk In Centre and the Minor Injuries Unit […]
How can the next generation afford to live in Solihull?
In Silhill and St Alphege wards we have some of the most expensive housing in the Borough. This applies to both to the price of property for sale and also property to rent, with Silhill having more privately rented flats and houses than almost any other ward in Solihull. No wonder our young people have […]
